Process
We search the wild beaches, mountains, valleys and deserts for a variety of natural stones with distinct characters to represent the places on earth they come from.
In our studio Glenn sands and lightly polishes the stones to bring out their colors and soften their edges. Sheri hand-sculpts the figures in clay or wax, original molds are created, and editions are cold-cast in epoxy with bronze pigments or multi-component cement.
The uniqueness of a piece begins to emerge as we integrate figure and stone, sculpting in and around each nook and cranny to complement the stone’s natural character. In the final stages 10-20 layers of media are worked into each piece to bring it to life.
Media
The stones include varieties of amethyst, crystalline quartz, geodes, fossils, slate, serpentine, marble, ocean jasper, jade and others. Our figures are resin and stone media and finished with pumice, stone pigments, acrylics, ground metal alloys, patinas and colored waxes. Custom bases, some with leaf details, are created from multi-component cement, resin, colored metals and waxes.
Cataloging
Each sculpture is hand-signed, dated, photographed and registered in a collection database. A Certificate of Authenticity comes with each piece.
Sculpture Care
The figures are weather-resistant for decades although the figure and stone may react differently to extreme weather. For the longest life we recommend placing your sculptures in mild, dry environments indoors or sheltered outside.
What's New
We are currently developing two new sculpture collections in mixed media and limited edition bronze from selected pieces in our gallery. Each piece is one of a kind with individual hand-sculpting and unique hand-patinas. Fine art prints and cards will be available on our site in 2009. Please Contact Us for more information.
